Beneath the Surface

$4,000.00

Beneath the Surface, 2025

Acrliyc, Raffia, and Silkworm Cocoons on Canvas

36 x 24 x 2 inches

The Salt Is Sweeter Than The Sugar Is Salty by Tasanee Durrett

"Beneath the Surface" explores our dependence on natural ecosystems while honoring ancestral connections to the earth. The flow of the golden raffia fibers pay homage to both aquatic plant life and cultural heritage. This particular piece evokes the historical journeys of Black seamen who navigated waterways for freedom. The layered composition invites viewers to consider what lies beneath familiar terrains and how our survival remains intertwined with these often overlooked natural foundations.”
